Dates and venues: Thursday, March 19, 6:15 p.m. at the Westfalenhalle Dortmund and Sunday, March 22, 3:30 p.m. at the ÖVB Arena Bremen. Tickets are available from 15 euros at www.dhb.de/tickets and at all known Eventim ticket outlets. Offers for groups of ten or more can be requested via dhb.de/tickets.
“On the road to the 2027 World Championship on home soil, these are two more top international matches in strong locations,” says Mark Schober, CEO of the German Handball Federation. “Exactly 100 days after our women's thrilling World Championship quarterfinal against Brazil, we are returning to Dortmund with the men. We expect another great atmosphere there. And Bremen is set to be a highlight for the entire Lower Saxony-Bremen Handball Association.
”Germany has played Egypt 39 times to date, with 29 wins, two draws, and eight defeats. The most recent encounters took place in November 2023 in Neu-Ulm (31:31) and Munich (28:27). The Olympic quarterfinal in Tokyo, which ended in a 26:31 defeat on August 3, 2021, remains a painful memory. “Egypt is the non-European world-class team par excellence,” says Ingo Meckes, DHB Sports Director. "These two international matches will be top-class challenges on the road to the 2027 World Cup on home soil.
"The Women's World Cup made a sporting statement, and the Westfalenhalle Dortmund was a central stage for emotional handball moments at world-class level. The fact that we are now experiencing the next top match in Dortmund exactly 100 days after the World Cup quarter-finals with the men's international match against Egypt underlines the close partnership with the DHB and the importance of Dortmund as a handball city," said Sabine Loos, CEO of the Westfalenhallen Group. “We are looking forward to a handball festival on March 19 with a large crowd, strong fan energy, and an experience that will have an impact far beyond the 60 minutes of play.”
"We see the German Handball Federation's decision to award another international match to Bremen in 2026 as a sign of great confidence in the ÖVB Arena and our long-standing partnership. This decision underscores Bremen's importance as a sports and event location. For the city and the people in the northwest, the game is a special event that attracts national attention and shows that Bremen continues to be a major player in German handball," says Andreas Adolph, head of the ÖVB Arena Bremen. The DHB team last visited Bremen in January 2023 for an international match against Iceland.
The German national handball team will begin preparations for the World Cup on home soil with a training camp in March and international matches against Egypt. The World Cup will take place from January 13 to 31, 2027, under the motto “Where Handball is alive” in Munich, Stuttgart, Magdeburg, Kiel, Hanover, and Cologne. Tickets are available via the event website www.handball2027.com.
