DREI HASELNÜSSE FÜR ASCHENBRÖDEL

“Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” as a Musical

At long last, the famous 1973 Christmas film classic has made its way to the musical stage.
Based on the original DEFA film by Vaclav Vorlicek and Frantisek Pavlicek, a heartwarming and enchanting musical has been created, featuring the well-known, anthem-like music by Karel Svoboda and other composers.

For over 50 years, “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” has been one of the most important Christmas traditions for many generations. It’s simply a very special Cinderella—one with whom audiences can still identify today: She’s smart, self-confident, warm-hearted, and skilled at horseback riding, archery, and climbing.
Now, audiences and all “Christmas fans” can experience this enchanting story live as a romantic musical, in which Cinderella—after her father’s death—is mocked, exploited, and humiliated by her stepmother and stepsisters on her father’s estate. Only the doves, the horse Nikolaus, and three hazelnuts secretly help her—against all opposition from her wicked stepmother—to make her way to the king’s ball, where the prince falls head over heels in love with her during a dance. While fleeing, she loses her right shoe, prompting the prince to set out in search of her, the love of his life.

The musical was produced with the permission of the DEFA Film Foundation, based on the film of the same name, in a production directed by Stefan Zimmermann. All songs are performed live, and the cast, of course, performs live as well.

A two-and-a-half-hour musical Christmas dream for young and old alike—one you won’t want to miss.
