The Nutcracker

Christmas magic and rapture, colourful folklore and delicate puppetry, a merry snowflake waltz and noble ballroom dancing: hardly any other ballet contains so many different but delightful aspects. This is "The Nutcracker" as it was premiered at the Mariinsky Theatre in snowy St Petersburg in 1892.

Sumptuous stage sets and the magnificent music by Peter I. Tchaikovsky, played live by an outstanding orchestra, delight and transport you into the dream world of the girl Clara, who is on the threshold of adulthood. A nocturnal fight with mice and the revitalisation of all her toys are part of it.

And then comes the charming prince who peels himself out of the wooden nutcracker at night! He is a symbol of youthful vigour, but at the same time as vulnerable as a tin soldier. Clara helps him win against the grotesque mice on Christmas night. In return, the young man travels with her to the realm of magic.

Hilarious and exotic adventures await them there. It is almost like travelling around the world in dance. How will this fairy tale end, with a wedding or with Clara's awakening? You and your family will have to find out for yourselves.

Because this ballet fairy tale belongs in every sheltered childhood. Show it to your offspring so that their love for the gentle yet powerful art of classical dance is not lost. Young people in particular love to be enchanted.
