80 years of Olaf der Flipper – 65 years on stage – a tour full of gratitude, music, and emotion.
Former professional tennis player, family man, cult figure in a red glitter jacket and, above all, one of Germany's most successful and popular pop artists. Olaf der Flipper celebrates his 80th birthday in March 2026 – and says “thank you” with an exclusive birthday tour that also pays tribute to his impressive life's work.
The career of Olaf Malolepski, as he is known by his real name, is unique. As a member of the legendary Flippers, he has influenced generations of pop fans since the 1960s. Hits such as “Weine nicht kleine Eva” (Don't cry, little Eva), “Die rote Sonne von Barbados” (The red sun of Barbados), ‘Lotusblume’ (Lotus flower) and “Mona Lisa” have become timeless classics. Over 60 million records sold, more than 65 gold and platinum awards, and over four decades of band history made “Die Flippers” the most commercially successful band in Germany.
After the band split up in 2011, Olaf, aka Flipper, knew immediately that the stage would remain his home. He got off to a flying start as a solo artist, with his first album going gold. By 2022 at the latest, when the song “Wir sagen Dankeschön – 40 Jahre die Flippers” (We say thank you – 40 years of the Flippers) went viral and catapulted him to the Ballermann and the biggest festival stages in Germany, such as Rock am Ring and the Parookaville Festival, it was clear: Olaf der Flipper is a cult figure and connects generations with his friendly manner and his music.
He even inspires internationally: in 2025, he landed in the British Top 10 of the iTunes charts with Vincent Gross and the song “Drinking wine feeling fine” and became our export SCHLAGER at the BBC Radio Festival in front of 20,000 Britons.
Olaf der Flipper is and remains a thoroughbred musician who constantly reinvents himself without forgetting his roots.
It is precisely this musical mix that will delight young and old, long-time and new fans alike on his birthday tour in September 2026, inviting them to sway, dance, and sing along. The Magdeburg native will be accompanied musically at the eleven concerts by his daughter Pia Malo, as is tradition.
